Environment, emotion, ritual and routine
Dr John Morgan, Lecturer in Early Modern History and Dr Sasha Handley, Senior Lecturer in History
John and Sasha’s project brings together the growing fields of environmental history and the history of emotions, and seeks to understand the role of emotions in people’s understandings of and engagements with their environments. It uses some of the estate records, charters, and estate correspondence held in the John Rylands Library, to explore the role of emotion and affect in the rituals and routines of premodern people.
This project is funded by a JRRI Pilot Grant and runs from September 2017 to July 2018.
