Medieval Manuscripts in the First ‘Northern Powerhouse’

(Stephen Mossman, History)

Stephen’s project seeks to lay the groundwork for a major exhibition of the medieval manuscripts in the John Rylands Library. The project’s aims include:

  • establishing a conceptual framework for the exhibition, which would be centred around the idea of journeys and migration;
  • establishing a scheme for a coherent impact programme which will bring new research on the manuscripts to the fore.

The thematic foci that emerge will also underpin the academic essays in the exhibition catalogue that are to stand alongside the entries for individual items. They will be established in light of the ongoing work undertaken by Dr Jo Edge in the Rylands to catalogue the Latin manuscripts.

This project is funded by the JRRI Pilot grant and runs from September 2019 – July 2020.
